Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Three Weeks Left!

Three weeks! Twenty-one days! Five hundred and four hours! Thirty- four thousand, five hundred and sixty minutes! Two million, seventy-three thousand… you know what, I’m just going to stop now.

We are one week closer to the Season Seven premier of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. For today’s countdown post, I didn’t get a chance to write anything interesting, due to being at work, so I decided to share an excerpt from an Agent’s of S.H.I.E.L.D. story I’ve been working on.

So, basically, it’s Agent’s of S.H.I.E.L.D. mashed up with the plot of Frozen. I know, I know, it sounds weird, but it makes a lot more sense than you would think! Anyway, it follows the basic plot of Frozen, but with characters, places, and even some plotlines from S.H.I.E.L.D.

In this version, Daisy and Skye are two different characters instead of one. They are identical twins; Daisy stands in for Elsa, and Skye is Anna (I realized that Skye/Daisy kind of corresponds to both sisters at different times in the show, so I made them separate characters.)

Each Frozen character has a S.H.I.E.L.D. character that “stands in” for them. It’s a bit hard to explain, but hopefully it makes sense!

The story isn’t finished, so I’m just posting this little bit for fun. Hopefully, I’ll finish it soon and you all can read the full thing! In this part, Skye (who is Anna, remember) meets Lincoln. You should be able to tell who he stands in for!

Let’s get started!

Here’s a fancy little “book cover” I made for the story!

Several hours later, Skye pushed open the door to a diner feeling tired and completely discouraged. Everyone was panicking over the earthquake. Skye couldn’t say she blamed them; she was having a hard enough time staying calm herself. At least three-quarters of the town had shut down, and the quarter that was still operating was crowded with panic-stricken crowds.

Every car rental place and used car lot in the town was shut down. If Daisy had been in this situation, she probably would have just stolen a vehicle. But the last time Skye had tried to hotwire a car, she had nearly blown herself up, along with everyone in a mile-and-a-half radius. She was not going to risk that again.

The diner was busy, but it was less crowded than some of the other restaurants Skye had come across. There was a long line at the counter, so she slipped through the crowd to an empty booth by the window.

The damage here in the town was not as bad as the damage at the base, but there was evidence of Daisy’s power outburst everywhere. Several buildings were off kilter, their foundations having shifted, and there were cracks in the ground everywhere. Skye hoped that no one had been injured, or worse.

            “…that’s your problem, not mine.”

A snippet of conversation caught her ear. It sounded like an argument. She followed the sound over to a booth on the other side of the diner. A tall blonde guy stood next to a squat bald man sitting in the booth. The man in the booth sat sipping coffee and looking only slightly put out. The blond guy, on the other hand, looked like he might blow his top any second.

“I’m on a schedule. If I can’t get gas then I’m stuck here and–”

“Look, it’s your card that was denied. I can’t help you with that.”

The argument went back and forth for several more minutes before the blonde guy stormed out. Skye snatched up a menu and pretended to be studying it when he passed her table. She watched through the window as the guy walked toward the gas station across the street.

She slid her phone out of her pocket and snapped a quick picture of the guy. She pulled out her S.H.I.E.L.D. issued credit card. An idea was forming in her head. Good thing her phone was still connected to S.H.I.E.L.D.’s facial recognition software.

Several minutes later, Skye left her booth and crossed the diner to where the bald man was still sitting.

“Hey,” she said. “I’d like to buy some gas.”

*****

Lincoln fumed his way across the street to the gas station and his currently stranded truck. He entered on the driver’s side, slamming the door behind him. He groaned and leaned his head back on the headrest. It was some day he was having.

He was heading back home after driving hours to a medical conference that was shut down early due to half the attendees coming down with food poisoning. Then, he ran out of gas in Mayberry, which was lucky enough to be the recipient of an earthquake today of all days. To top it all off, his credit card was declined, and he had no cash with him. So, he was stuck.

The quiet of the car was suddenly broken by a crackling sound. Lincoln glanced at his hands clenched around the steering wheel. Sparks of blue electricity played over his knuckles. He closed his eyes and took a few deep breaths like he had been taught. When he looked at his hands again, the sparks were gone. His mood was still incredibly foul, but at least he wasn’t going electrify the entire car.

A high, ringing laugh drifted in from outside. He looked over to see a strange girl walking his way with the manager of the gas station who, in true Mayberry fashion had been riding out the earthquake fallout in the local diner. He made a face and tilted his head away from the pair, hoping they would walk past him and into the gas station.

No such luck. The girl approached the driver’s side of the truck, and Lincoln heard her laugh again before rapping on his window. That laugh was at once both the most annoying and the most wonderful sound he had heard in a long time.

Reluctantly, he lowered his window. Before he could snap at her to go away, she spoke.

“Lincoln Campbell, it’s been a long time since Garfield High.”

He had no idea who this girl was, but he knew that she had not gone to his high school. He would have remembered a girl like that.

She had big brown eyes and a playful smirk on her face. She carried herself with confidence, and it was easy to see she liked to have her own way.

“Yeah, it has been.” Lincoln wasn’t sure why he responded that way. He’d never met this girl before in his life.

“I was just explaining to Mr. Lombardi here,” she motioned to the gas station manager. “Why you blew up at him earlier.”

So she had witnessed the scene in the diner.

“Miss Skye explained about your conference.” He shook his head. “Such a shame to drive all that way just to have it canceled.”

Now Lincoln was getting a little alarmed. “You told him about that?” How did this girl know so much about him?

“Of course. I also told him that we decided to meet up since you were nearby. You should have just waited for me to get there, instead of yelling at Mr. Lombardi.” She pulled a credit card from her pocket and waved it. “I have my card.” She crossed over to the pump, and called over her shoulder. “I’ll pay, you pump, Doctor Boy.”

Lincoln exited the truck in a daze. He had a bad feeling about the girl; normal people don’t know every detail about complete strangers. But she was paying for his gas. Also, why was she paying for his gas?

He got to the pump and caught a glimpse of her card as she removed it from the machine and pocketed it. There was some kind of logo on it, maybe a bird.

She smiled innocently at him. “Have at it, Dr. Campbell.”

“Who are you?” he whispered.

Before she had a chance to reply, Mr. Lombardi burst back into the conversation. “I’m so sorry for all of the trouble. I hope you get to where you need. I’m glad I could be part of this reunion. River’s End is the perfect place to reconnect with old friends.” His cheery demeanor dimmed. “At least, usually.”

“Yeah, the earthquake. Seems like River’s End got hit pretty hard. Any idea how widespread it was?” the girl asked.

The man shook his head. “I do not know for sure, but that isn’t the strange part.” He lowered his voice, and the girl leaned in, interested. “People are saying this quake was caused,” he paused for dramatic effect. “By a person.”

“Really?” She sounded surprised, but Lincoln got the feeling that she really wasn’t at all. “How is that possible?”

Mr. Lombardi shrugged. “No one knows. But some say that this isn’t even the worst that the Destroyer could do.”

“The Destroyer?”

“That’s what they’re called in the story. The Destroyer of Worlds.”

The girl’s face blanched. Lincoln was surprised that she actually believed the story. Most people didn’t. This wasn’t the first time he had heard the legend, and he believed it one hundred percent. The thought had never occurred to him that this specific situation was cause by the Destroyer. Why would the Destroyer of Worlds hit a small town like River’s End?

He pulled the nozzle out of his truck’s gas tank and hung it back on the pump. “Right, well great story, but I’ve got to get going.”

The girl blinked as if coming out of a trance. “Right.” Before Lincoln could react, she had climbed into the passenger’s seat of his truck and shut the door behind her.

Lincoln stared at her for a moment. What on earth was the lunatic girl doing now? He shook his head and climbed to the driver’s seat.

Mr. Lombardi waved and called wishes for safe travel before heading into the gas station.

“What do you think you’re doing?” Lincoln burst out immediately after sitting down.

“Umm… you’re welcome,” the girl said. She pulled out her phone and started typing on the screen. “I need a ride, and I just bought you gas, so I figure you owe me a favor.”

“No. No way.” Lincoln shook his head emphatically. “I have to get back to–”

“Your job at the hospital and your medical studies.” She tapped some more at the screen of her phone. “Not anymore.” She turned the screen so he could see. “You just called in sick.”

Lincoln snatched the phone from her. Sure enough, there on the screen was an email from his account to both his manager at the hospital, and his college administrator. Both had responded with wishes for a quick recovery.

Lincoln tossed the phone back at her. “Okay, who are you?”

“Skye Johnson, and you might want to start driving; I think Mr. Lombardi is getting suspicious.” She waved at the man, who was staring at them from the gas station door.

Grudgingly, Lincoln put the truck in gear and pulled away from the gas station. “That’s not what I meant. How do you know so much about me?”

Skye shrugged. “I’m sort of a spy.”

Spies, technology hacking, bird logos. “S.H.I.E.L.D. You’re with S.H.I.E.L.D.”

Great, just what he needed. More S.H.I.E.L.D. agents in his life.

*****

Lincoln slammed on the breaks and Skye was thrown forward in her seat. “Woah!” she exclaimed. “You could give a girl some warning.”

“What’s S.H.I.E.L.D. doing sending agents after me again? I thought everything was settled,” Lincoln said completely ignoring Skye’s comment.

Skye laughed nervously, wondering how much she should reveal. “Well, S.H.I.E.L.D. isn’t exactly-” then something Lincoln had said hit her. “Wait, did you say again?”

He shrugged noncommittally. “I’ve had run-ins with S.H.I.E.L.D. agents before.” He didn’t elaborate, instead changing the subject. “Does your mission have something to do with the Destroyer of Worlds?”

Skye was itching to know why this seemingly ordinary guy had interacted with S.H.I.E.L.D. agents before. Parts of his file had been redacted, and she assumed it was something to do with that. But it was obvious that he didn’t want to share, and she was kind of in a hurry.

He wanted to know about the Destroyer of Worlds. Did he believe the story? How would he react if she told him the truth? As a test, she simply replied, “Yes.”

“Fine.” Lincoln put the truck back into drive. “Where do you need to go? You can explain on the way.”

This was a surprising turn of events. Skye entered the information into the dash-mounted GPS, and they headed out on the road.

“So,” Skye said slowly, once they were out of town. “You believe the whole Destroyer of Worlds story?”

“You mean that a person will somehow destroy the earth someday? Yeah, I do. I take it you believe it too?”

“Yep.”

The awkward silence stretched on for several minutes, and then Skye sighed. She might as well tell him everything; since he believed the story, he might end up being helpful. “I guess this is the part where I explain.”

“That would be nice.”

“I don’t even know where to start.”

“How about you start with why such a powerful person would target a town like River’s End?”

“That wasn’t intentional. The S.H.I.E.L.D base is near here, and River’s End just got caught in the storm.”

“So the Destroyer came after the S.H.I.E.L.D. base.”

“Well, not exactly. It’s really my fault. We were having a party for the new director, my sister, and I made her mad. I don’t think she meant to hurt anyone, but apparently she has earthquake powers I never knew about-”

“Hang on,” Lincoln interrupted. “The Destroyer is the director of S.H.I.E.L.D.?”

“And my sister,” Skye replied weakly.

Lincoln blew out a hard breath. “Wow. So what did you do to make her so upset?”

“It’s kind of a long story, but the old director and his second in command were my and Daisy’s SO’s,-that’s supervising officer-but then they died, so Daisy became director. But she’s always been much better at the whole spy thing than I am, so I still need some help. Anyway, I met this really great guy and he offered to be my new SO, which was great because I’m kinda in love with him, but Daisy got all freaked out because I’d only just met him that day-”

“Wait. You just met the guy and you decided that you love him?”

“Yeah. Anyway, I got mad and so she got mad and started storming off. I tried to follow her, but she yelled and all the glasses shattered!”

“But you just met the guy.”

“I’m sorry, did you not hear the part about the shattered glass?”

“Yeah, yeah. I thought you were supposed to be a spy? Weren’t you trained to be cautious around strangers?”

“Yes, I was.” He had a point. She glanced around her, realizing the situation she had put herself in now. Well, the only thing she could do now was scoot closer to the passenger side door and away from the driver’s seat. But she knew this wasn’t what Lincoln was referring to, and he had to be set straight on that score. She crossed her arms and looked defiantly out the window. “Ward is not a stranger.”

“Oh yeah? What’s his last name?”

“Ward is his last name.”

“First name?”

Skye faltered a bit. “Agent?”

“Favorite food?”

“Chocolate.”

“Best friend’s name?”

“Probably John.”

“Eye color?”

“Dreamy.”

“Foot size?”

“Foot size doesn’t matter.”

Lincoln shot her a sidelong glance. He’d been giving her a lot of those. “But knowing a guy before you decide you’re in love with him? That kinda does.”

He was making some good points, but Skye was not about to admit that. She was determined to get the last word in. “Look, none of that matters. It’s true love.”

“Doesn’t sound like true love.”

And… he was still going. Skye was completely fed up with this conversation. Somehow, they had managed to get way off topic. They should have been focusing on what to do about Daisy, yet here they were talking about her personal life. “What are you, some sort of love expert?” She asked sullenly.

“No, but I have friends who are a real example of what true love looks like.”

“Well, I would love to meet them,” she said, sinking back in her seat, completely sulking now.

“Don’t worry, you will,” Lincoln replied fully ignoring her sarcasm.

He turned off of the main road and away from the route they were supposed to be taking.

“Hey,” Skye said sitting up straight again, suddenly alert. “What are you doing?”

Lincoln smirked at her but didn’t answer her question. “Hey Siri, call FitzSimmons.”

“Calling FitzSimmons,” Siri replied over the sound of the GPS complaining about the route change.

“I have a feeling we’re going to need all the help we can get in this.”

There you have it! Were you able to tell what scenes from Frozen these were based around? How about some of the details that came straight from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.? Did you figure out who Lincoln was? Let me know!

I hope you liked it, and are interested to see how the rest of the story goes. I know I sure am! Wait, what do you mean I have to write it?

Thanks for taking a look at one of the weirder things my brain has come up with! Remember, it may be strange, but someone out there will like it!

Until next time!
